Welcome to Amazing People From History! Each week, we will be delving into the lives, accomplishments, and legacies of twenty amazing different people! Each week, by Wednesday evening (9pm PST) - -I will email each student a link that weeks lecture and assignments. This will be on YouTube and is in a private account that is embedded into the Outschool classroom page. - Assignments will consist of discussion and essay questions, short research topics, Youtube videos, and worksheets....
In this class, students will learn about history through the lens of different people who lived it. We will discuss a variety of topics such as chemistry, Vietnamese history, American Revolutionary War History, France, Antartica, NASA, fairy tales, aviation, germ theory, the holocaust, technology, poetry, New Zealand, theatre, abstract art, and filmmaking. All classes will be presented with multiple perspectives.
I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions. I have a passion for history and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
Each week, I will post to the classroom a list of 3-7 questions that will be due the following Saturday. There will also be a list of 2-5 research topics or projects, and each student will choose one that interests them. Answers for the research topics only have to be a paragraph or two. This is also due Saturday of each week. Homework can either be sent through the communication function of Outschool (email) or posted on the classroom page. Each project is be written clearly and with any references noted. (No cut and paste)
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
During this class, we will discuss various points in history. This will include discussions of racism, sexism, and discrimination. These topics will be handled in an age appropriate manner. his class will utilize Youtube videos for sharing of lecture videos, as well as supplemental lessons. All Youtube videos are embedded into the Outschool platform. This class may also utilize Kahoot. Learners will be given a direct link and game pin to play.
