In this one time class, we will unpack and explore everything you ever wanted to know about fungi and lichens. Our main questions for exploration are: Why are fungi and lichens and how do they grow? How do fungi and lichens benefit the environment? What are the different types? and, What makes fungi and lichens unique? We will take our time introducing fungi and lichen anatomy and physiology, and their life cycle. Students will also learn about how plants and animals (including us) benefit from fungi and lichens. In addition to the interactive lecture and brief videos, student will complete their own mushroom diagram and vocabulary sheets. We will conclude our class with a round of fungi & lichen trivia to cement our knowledge, and before closing, we will review a packet of at-home, hands-on activities that students can complete with their families.
