Class Experience
Would you rather take a virtual trip or complete a challenge? In this class, you can do both. Come take a virtual trip around the world in this class. Each week, you will find out about the landmarks, culture, and popular destinations of a different country by completing different challenges including detours, fast-forwards, and scavenger hunts. You will be given some information about the culture of the location of the week. You will then be tasked with completing an activity related to the...
During this class, you will learn about the culture, history, and popular destinations in different countries.
I have taught in face-to-face schools for over 30 years. During this time, I taught all academic areas for grades K-5 including Art, STEM, and Social Studies. One of my hobbies includes traveling and learning about different countries and cultures.
For each of the main destinations, you will need to complete at least one of the challenges. For example, you may try a recipe from the location. You will be encouraged to work either individually or as a group, you get to decide what is best for your learning style. This homework should take between 0-2 hours weekly depending on what challenge you decide to complete. You will post videos showing your completion of the challenges on the class Flipgrid page.
Google or some reference materials to find out more about each destination. Foods for recipes of the learner's choice (if they choose to do a recipe challenge- the learner will choose which challenges they will complete with only one being required for each destination.) Flipgrid
You will be assessed informally based on participation and completion of the challenges.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
The learners will be deciding which challenges they decide to do for each location we discuss in class. Some challenges that will be offered include making a recipe that is common in that country. Your child may need to cook that recipe. If your child has food allergies, please let me know. I will try to help locate recipes that do not include their allergins. I will be sharing a link to a Flipgrid page for the learners to use to share pictures and videos of their work on the challenges.
Personal Research including talking with natives of the countries to be introduced as well as information given by visitor and tourism officials and websites from the destinations Information from friends who live in the country being discussed Information from personal travels
