In this one time class students will be introduced to unicellular eukaryotic microorganisms and understand their role as human parasites. This class will discuss general features, reproduction and life cycles of Protozoa. The focus will be on intestinal and free-living Amebae. Through slides, photos and diagrams students will learn modes of transmission, pathogenicity (disease and infection) and clinical features. Students will be able to explain general features of Amebae and their relationship to human host.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Lesson will include discussion of Brain- Eating Ameba and some photos of skin ulcers.
