This class is an introduction to feminism and social justice for preteens who are curious about what it means to be a young feminist and how they can implement social justice into their own lives. Please note that this class is also offered separately for students aged 13-15. We will talk about the meanings of feminism and social justice. We will discuss feminism as a social and political movement that fights for gender equality. Students will be asked if they know of any social justice...
Learners will learn about 3 young feminist and social justice activists. They will be encouraged to participate in a discussion about the topics they are interested in and will leave inspired to fight for the things that they care about. Participants will learn about some of the ways they can become involved in these areas (through school clubs, volunteer programmes, city programmes, etc.) and will be inspired and encouraged to fight for social justice in their own lives.
I am a Ph.D. student in Gender, Feminism, and Women’s Studies and am very passionate about getting young people excited about social justice and equality.
There is no homework for this class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
