Description

Class Experience

Students will gain confidence in identifying their letters of the alphabet, what that letter says (phonics) and we will be having fun with friends by finding words or objects in our home that represent that letter to share during a show and share time. If time allows, students will be given craft time to create a simple art project which represents our letter too!
I have been teaching 3-12 year olds English as a Second Language to students in China online for almost two years now and I have a toddler at home with me all day. Prior to this I was an Elementary School teacher and a Pediatric Dentist receptionist for a few years after that. Kids are my passion whether it's helping them build confidence, teaching them, playing with them and I love seeing that light bulb moment when they get something or are excited about their class time. I am always teaching someone a letter, the letter's long and short sounds while also helping them pronounce words correctly and making their learning so fun they cannot forget it! My students through VIPKID LOVE when we do a challenge to see if the teacher or the student has more items to hold up to the camera representing what we are learning (such as colors, letters, etc.). I live for their smiles as they scramble to find something and parents who get into it too!

I happen to be an adult who has had ADHD all of my life which means I can relate to the active kiddos who have trouble focusing! In fact, many of my parents from China tag me as "patient", "scaffolding", "energetic", "extension", "student encouragement" and "classroom environment" meaning I rock at those things! I hope these are helpful for your student too!

I cannot wait to help your little one have fun learning their ABC's too! <3
No homework! YAY! Students will complete the lesson and activities individually and share their art/objects with the whole group. We will also be having whole group discussions. Students are encouraged to find more objects and to practice the sounds that letter makes throughout their week.
Paper (cardstock, printer paper, notebook paper or construction paper to draw on) Markers, crayons, etc. (coloring materials)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Informal assessment will be used during this lesson to determine student understanding with a focus on fun to help students remember what they have learned all while building a sense of community.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students should be able to complete this class without parental guidance, but guidance may be needed during our craft time. I will always do my best to keep crafts as simple as possible so there is minimal prep needed or materials needed on the parents part. If scissors or paint and glue is involved, I will list this in the materials needed section.
