30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
During this one-time class, students will learn to blend and read CVC words. We will begin the class with approximately two minutes of introductions. Following introductions, we will sing the alphabet song and play a game of Snakes and Ladders to review letters and letter sounds. We will complete an explorer hat coloring craft activity (file will be provided). Students will embark on a treasure hunt, as true alphabet explorers, working with one another to solve word puzzle clues and learning to synthesize CVC words. We will identify and learn fun facts about animals while learning to blend and read each CVC word. Please come to class prepared to write one CVC word at the end of the lesson. It is highly recommended that students be able to identify the letters of the alphabet and letter sounds prior to the start of the class. We will review letter sounds, but the primary learning goal will be to blend and read CVC words. I will use a guided learning approach to encourage students to blend CVC words independently and use these skills with confidence as they learn to read outside of the classroom. Each learner will be encouraged to identify letters and letter sounds and students will collaborate with one another to find the treasure. I will use classroom slides and props and I will reveal what is inside the treasure chest at the end of the class. Note to parents: the treasure chest will contain fun toys to virtually reward students for their hard work. Students are encouraged to bring their binoculars and dress like explorers. See you in the classroom!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, and welcome to my classroom! My name is Stephanie B. I have 3 years of experience teaching ESL online to students in China, in the age range of 4-12, and I am excited to have the opportunity to share my love of learning with more students. I have a Masters in Management and I am currently a doctoral learner.
My lessons will focus on the fundamentals of reading and writing, synthetic phonics, syllables, rhyming words, and patterns. I will also host scavenger hunts, virtual book clubs, and talent shows. I wrote, illustrated, and self-published a book entitled, "When I Grow up," and will host a Career Day virtual field trip. I am responsible, organized, energetic, and excited to reach students through Outschool.
While I enjoy teaching students one-on-one, I am excited about the opportunity to allow students to engage with one another in a group environment especially during a period of social distancing. Learning is a social activity and I believe that students gain critical skills and knowledge from collaboration with peers. When I am not teaching, I enjoy adventures with my family, reading, writing, baking, and hiking. Thank you for stopping by. I hope to see you in the classroom soon!
