This Construction Site Alphabet Adventure adventure aims to give young learners a problem solving, collaborative adventure with their classmates, while practicing early phonics skills. This class will give young learners a fun escape-room type experience, reinforcing their early phonics and reading skills, and incorporating some color, basic numbers and shape activities, as they undertake a fun adventure to solve the alphabet puzzles and solve the mystery at the construction site. This lesson will take the students on a fun Construction Site themed adventure, incorporating names of much loved construction trucks and other important items from the construction site, students will solve simple puzzles and finding important clues along the way. This lesson is aimed at students with a basic understanding of phonics sounds. If you feel your child needs a little support you are welcome to sit alongside them (offscreen) and support them. I will sometimes mute all of the students to give them an opportunity to think aloud as they solve the puzzle, and then children return to talk as a group about their answers.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from Open University
Hello! My name is Roisin. Welcome to my classroom!
I have a both a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Education. For more than 20 years I have been a teacher and an educator. I have been a classroom teacher, a curriculum designer, a teacher trainer and an online English teacher. I have experience teaching students from PreSchool through to 9th grade, both in a regular classroom and also in a virtual classroom. For me as an educator, it has been rewarding at every level to nurture and foster early skills and equip young learners with the tools they need to inquire and question about the world around them. I love to see how these skills grow and develop, and support learners as they progress throughout the grades.
I believe that children learn when they are actively engaged in their learning, sharing their ideas and collaborating with their peers. Learning is inspired by lessons that are meaningful and relevant to students. The lessons spark their interest, nurture and develop an understanding of a 'big idea' and build essential skills. And of course fun and enjoyment in the classroom are essential ingredients too. When students are happy and engaged, those meaningful conversations and interactions happen naturally in the classroom.
Over the past few years I have learned to surf (badly). I am by no means a good surfer (in fact I'm pretty poor), but there is nothing more rewarding than finally standing upright on that board! Its good to feel the challenge of slowly mastering the various steps, before finally mastering the 'pop-up'. And nothing more humbling than seeing the little kids whizz past you as you struggle to master those skills during the process!
