Students will learn to unlock the power of their mind and mood specifically when they feel anxious. We'll discuss what anxiousness is and why it impacts us. We'll work on identifying when we feel anxious by becoming aware of our thoughts and bodies. Once we learn to put a name to the feeling, we'll explore how to find possible causes for our feelings in the shape of boggarts and what actions and spells (square breathing with our wands and progressive relaxation) we can conjure to help us feel calmer. Learners will walk away with a greater understanding of their own emotions and how to feel competent in tackling difficult feelings. We'll meet in our virtual classroom and practice together. Topics covered: What is anxiety and why do we feel it? Recognizing when we feel anxious Finding our boggarts (causes of anxiety) and turning them into something funny, not scary Spells to overcome anxiety (specific mindfulness techniques addressed above)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Heather, founder of Grow Family Wellness, LLC and I love teaching unique classes that fit right alongside the ones you are already doing-kind of like the last puzzle piece. My favorite subjects to explore with you are movement/yoga, mindfulness, social/cultural studies, science, and language arts. I really enjoy making these classes different too by creating projects that are hands-on. Most importantly, I love moving and becoming more mindful of our learning through movement and self-awareness techniques. Believe it or not, yoga is integrated into all that I do and how I teach. And you know what I have noticed? Kids (and adults) love this approach!
I have a Master's in Education, a Bachelor's in English Literature, and multiple yoga and mindfulness credentials from Kidding Around Yoga (I am actually a trainer for them!), Accessible Yoga, and Mindful Schools.
I believe learning should be self-led, self-actualized, and intrinsic and I know that they way to do that is by making class experiences that are fun, relevant, playful, and project-based. It may seem difficult to do that virtually, but there are a multitude of ways to help students gain an exploratory nature at home so that they can get creative with how they approach school! Let's make learning mindful, meaningful, and fun.
My favorite things to do are to walk the beach with my own six children whom I homeschool, create anything (crochet, paint, write), and travel!
