3 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. Consistent practice.Class Experience
Students will learn how to read ukulele chord diagrams, how to develop muscle memory in their fingers to play chords, how to strum in rhythm, and a variety of practice techniques. Starting in the key of C, students will learn how to play chord progressions that they can use to play familiar songs. Each thirty-minute class will consist of modeling, discussions, demonstrations, and rehearsals. Materials will be provided electronically by the instructor. I believe students learn best by doing, so students will be expected to display what they have learned as the course progresses. The first class will be spent mostly watching teacher modeling. One-on-one lessons will provide time for ample personal engagement. Required: a playable ukulele that will stay in tune and willingness to practice about 10 minutes every other day.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to play several chords in the key of C, how to create songs, and how to play familiar songs. Students will develop both right and left hand techniques.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
The website we will use (https://ukutabs.com/) is a free resource and no registration is necessary. The site contains a huge collection of songs, chord charts, and just about anything your child will ever need to learn the songs they love. Please keep in mind: the most successful young students have a parent/learning coach willing to learn the basics with students so they can assist during practice sessions. Students left alone to learn their first chords without someone to help physically adjust their fingers will struggle to progress.
Supply List
Playable ukulele that is pre-tuned and is able remain in tune, a printer, and the motivation to practice.
