We will explore famous Modernist artists from the 20th Century. Modernism is an ever-evolving style of art. Modernism tends towards the cutting edge and abstract art. Modern art changes and evolves. We will study the concept of Modern art and study a selection of Modern artists. We will view works of art by these artists and discuss their art and how they changed the artistic landscape. We will learn about art basics including color, lines, subject matter, perspective, and techniques. We will look at art by the masters and discuss what they mean to us. Then we will create a work of art inspired by the art of the masters in this class. Our Curriculum: Day 1: We will study Paul Klee Day 2: We will study Jasper Johns Day 3: We will study Yayoi Kasuma Day 4: We will study Cy Twombly Day 5: We will study Andy Warhol Materials needed for this class: A set of Liquid Acrylic or Tempera Paints (See notes below) A set of Paintbrushes (including at least flats and rounds) A palette A pencil (regular or at least a 2H) An eraser Mixed media art paper of at least 9 X 12 inches Two cups half-filled with water Paper towels or rags for cleaning brushes and hands For Day 5 you will need 2 Styrofoam Plates or Bowls (We will be making prints) Notes: * If you are using tube acrylics, you will need an acrylic medium to mix with them. Buy a matte or low gloss medium. This should be available where you purchased your paints. You will also need an artist plastic palette to properly mix your paints. * Watercolor Pan Sets will not work for this class A note about paints: It is best to have either liquid acrylic or Tempera paints. Tempera paints are inexpensive paints. They are non-toxic and easily washable You can find them on Amazon. This set is the bare minimum on Amazon "Crayola Tempera Paint Set, 2-Ounce, 6 Count" (it costs about $8.00). A more extensive set of Tempera Paints is on Amazon "U.S. Art Supply 18 Color Children's Washable Tempera Paint Set - 2-ounce bottles". Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from Minors: Biology, Chemistry, and Writing
Annette the Teacher has been teaching for a very long time. She has over three decades of experience teaching children of all ages. She has a B.A. in Sociology with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. She has homeschooled her own children from Pre-School through (their current) High School. All of her classes are interactive. Annette encourages students to fully participate in class. All of her classes feature hands-on activities and books Annette writes for the class herself.
Annette is a published writer, publisher, and artist. She uses her extensive knowledge and experience to create unique classes for every student. She enjoys teaching science, history, art, and cooking classes. She brings history alive with her "Life in ..." history classes where students learn about key times in history by experiencing children and families' lives in that time period. "Paint like ..." art classes where students will learn about famous artists and create their own artwork based on the artists' works. "Smart Science" classes where we explore science and complete experiments and projects. Kid Cuisine classes are cooking classes for Young Chefs based on historic foods and science topics. Students should be prepared to make, explore, and create during class. Annette knows hands-on, interactive experiences are the best way for children to learn.
Annette also has experience working with Special Needs children. She is Mom to a child on the autism spectrum and a child with serious medical needs. She also has worked with children with ADHD. If your child has special needs, please contact Annette so she can work with you and your child.
