This is my favorite book to read with my students each year!! I have never had a student not like this book - even my reluctant readers! In this 10 week class students will be introduced to one of my favorite books! This book is best for grades 3-5, and always my student's favorite book of the year! This is not a well known book, but students will fall in love with the characters in this book! Each week students will be given a chapter or two to read at home. When they come to class they will get to openly discuss the chapters they read - we will discuss plot, characters, vocabulary, cause and effect, problem and solution and point of view. We will also practice in text comprehension, students will be asked to use their books during class to find answers. Class will be laid back and fun. **If you have a student in grade 3, you may want to wait until the end of the year unless they are on level or above or if you plan to read with them** Week 1: Welcome to class, Teacher reads chapter 1 to class- discuss/activity. Partner read chapter 2. Homework- chapters 3-4 Week 2: Discuss chapters 3-4. Read chapters 5-6 in class. Mini lesson, chapter discussion, activity and assign chapter 7-8 Week 3: Discuss chapters 7-8. Read chapters 9-10 Mini lesson, chapter discussion, activity and assign chapters 11-12 Week 4: Discuss chapters 11-12. Read chapters 13-14. Mini lesson, chapter discussion, activity and assign chapters 15 and 16. Week 5: Discuss chapters 15 and 16. Read chapters 17-18 Mini lesson, chapter discussion, activity and assign chapter 19 Week 6: Review chapter 19. Read chapters 20-21. Review game.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Neal! I am a licensed teacher in the state of Indiana. I have been teaching on Outschool for five years, teaching 3rd - 6th reading/LA and Math! I taught 3rd grade for 7 years, and loved every second of it! I always knew I had a passion for math, but becoming a teacher taught me that I also have a love and passion for reading and teaching kids to love reading! My goal is always to create a classroom where students feel valued, successful, wanted, and smart! I keep my classroom positive and expect kindness and respect from all students.
I am also a mother of three, two boys ages 18 and 7 and a girl age 14. I did step away from the classroom four years ago in order to stay home with my kids. We live in Indiana during the summer and go to Florida for the winter months - I love showing my students the ocean and allowing them to see what we have seen on our adventures during the week.
