In this class, students will evaluate a given set of data to determine the mean, median, mode, range, and average. We will use various rhymes and tricks to help determine the difference between the mean, median, mode, and range. By the end of the class, students should be able to define each vocabulary word and identify each. The instructor will provide a google slides presentation to present information to students, providing examples to students and then will allow students to practice finding the mean, median, mode, range, and average to be checked and evaluated by the teacher. We will utilize our new skills by collecting our own data. Students will collect data by creating their own penny towers (or watching the teacher if you do not have your own roll of pennies). They will calculate the mean, median, mode, and range of their collected data.
Learning Goals
Students will define and interpret the mean, median, mode, range, and average of a given set of data.
