Class Experience

In the All Stars pod, we make art, exercise, and STEM engaging and fun! Each week has a different theme such as "Jungle Animals", "Colorful World", "Superhero", or "Fall". Along with our creative lessons, we provide many socialization opportunities for the learners to share and build friendships with one another. We look forward to filling your learner’s school year with exciting and challenging activities and projects.

In the Little Art Studio, Ms. Gerri focuses on having artists explore different media through a variety of projects: anything from line design with markers, to directed drawings, layered paper collage, paintings, pastel drawings and much more! We may even try some simple baking or cooking activities, thematic to the season. Incorporating stories, games and other social activities into the mix should be expected as well!

Ms. Rebekah focuses on making math and science fun. We will do hands-on science experiments that can be done on our own kitchen tables. The supplies will be given ahead of time to allow everyone to get what they need. We will also play math games to reinforce math standards. Some of these games will be competitive so we will also talk about being gracious winners and losers. No tears aloud! She will be sharing her screen to show a slideshow sometimes and other times, she will do the activity live using a second camera.

Miss Shannon focuses on fun workouts to get learners up and moving. She is highly qualified in the area of youth fitness and plans to help learners improve their balance, strength, agility, and flexibility through engaging exercise and games. She also loves seeing learners make connections through planning socialization activities and utilizing the breakout rooms. She also brings in life skills, health and nutrition, ELA, and crafts. Her energy is unmatched and the love for her learners fills the room (or Zoom!).

We have been teaching pods for over a year now together, and we can't wait to meet you in our upcoming fall semester!

Parental Guidance
Some learners may need support during some of the activities, but in our experience, many have been able to enjoy our pods independently.
Supply List
There will be a small supply list each week depending on the activities we have planned for your learners. Most supplies will be common things you probably already have at home such as generic craft supplies (pencils, markers, glue, scissors, colored paper, popsicle sticks, empty toilet paper roll, paint brush, paper plate, etc.)

If the activity needs more specific supplies, such as a certain type of paint, something like wood glue, supplies for a science experiment, or ingredients for a no bake snack, the list is posted for the entire 4-week term in advance, so everyone has a chance to gather what they need. We will also provide links to where you can easily get these supplies.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Ms. Gerri- Experimenting with pastels, markers, paints, paper, and photos as a creative outlet is so therapeutic. It brings great joy! I love to share different techniques and ideas with young learners and see how they discover their own talents and what sparks their creativity. I work hard to make my classes a comfortable place to try, make mistakes, and be inspired. I have many one-time and ongoing classes, including, painting, animal drawing, art journals, and baking. I also have some fun and colorful 3-day art camps! I graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in art and worked in the art department of 3 different national publications for about 10 years prior to teaching. Then, I spent many years in the classroom teaching ages K-12 in a wide variety of subjects. I have been teaching art and baking on Outschool for the past year, as well as teaching online ESL classes for the past 4 years. I am excited to meet new artists!

Ms. Rebekah- I love looking around me and asking questions. "What if....?" Science is full of "what if" questions. Come explore simple science experiments with me. I also have a love for math... especially math games. Join me as we make math fun! Many parents and learners appreciate the way I bring laughter to the classroom. I have been an educator for 10 years: online ESL teacher for 5 years, and a Kindergarten teacher for 5 years before that. I have worked with children of all ages in various summer school and online activities. I have a Bachelor's in Music Education from Boise State University and a Masters in Pastoral Studies from Multnomah University. I live in Idaho, USA with my husband and my 2 young daughters (Ages 2 and 5). We enjoy reading books, getting a little messy, and taking walks together. https://outschool.com/teachers/Rebekah-F

Miss Shannon- Let's get moving! I am very passionate about helping children to develop a love for getting active, being healthy, and learning! I believe children learn best through play. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Central Florida in elementary education. I also attended the National Academy of Sports Medicine and hold a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) license with a specialization in youth exercise (YES certified) and nutrition (FNS certified). I am a Florida State Champion bodybuilder and I have been training and teaching children both in a group setting and individually for nearly 5 years now in my private gym. I am also a private reading tutor both in person and online. I have taught successful online summer camps as well as after school programs and camps in my local community. Whether it's exercising or learning to read, teaching children is the joy of my life! Fitness and learning should be fun. I encourage and motivate children through tons of praise and confidence building. I have a very energetic teaching style, and I can't wait to learn and get active with you! https://outschool.com/teachers/readysetfitness
