Description
Class Experience
Students will learn to analyze literary characters in a story and identify how they develop and change. They will see the themes of good and evil, and study how decisions can shape our future. Homework is designed to help students understand how Lewis created a unique world and how it can relate to ours.
Hello! I hope to see you in my classroom! I have a degree in secondary education and have enjoyed teaching first and second grade, and high school English in a private school. For the last 8 years, I have homeschooled my own children. We have grown to love reading together and discussing good books. These books, especially, have been favorites of ours as we have studied and discussed the characters, themes, and exceptional humanity Lewis created in his special world, "Narnia." So, just as I have with my classroom students and my own children at home, we will learn together, have open discussions, and leave each class with a positive learning experience. Thank you! - Ms. Katie
Homework for this class is two part: 1. Students will read the book for each week's class. 2. Students will also have the choice to complete one of these options each week: A. Write a one page summary of the book. B. Create an art project depicting a scene from the book. C. Draw/print a map of the land and mark where the major events took place. D. Write your own alternate ending. E. Re-create a notable costume to model a character from the book. F. Make a storyboard showing the events of the story in order. G. Write a character analysis describing how a character changed and developed throughout the story. *Homework projects, or pictures of the projects, are to be uploaded before the next week's class. If applicable, students are encouraged to bring their homework projects with them to class to share with their fellow students.
1. Students will need their own copy of all 7 of "The Chronicles of Narnia." 2. Students may also need supplies depending on their choice of homework projects.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Religion will not be a focus of our class. We will be discussing the theme of "good vs. evil" throughout the series as C.S. Lewis personifies them with his unique and memorable characters.
