Class Experience
Overall Trailer: https://youtu.be/DvXPd8Ceqis Students will learn math in a relaxed, fun environment working with other students. Occasionally, students will break into groups and work together on math projects given by the teacher. The class is kept small for the benefit of the student. At the end of the semester, the students can join in playing a Minecraft game reviewing everything we learned. 🅵🅰🆀 👉What does All-Included mean? All instruction will be provided, you don't have to even...
The overall goal of this class is to get kids thinking mathematically in a concrete way so that "real" math will be much easier and not a source of anxiety, fear, or frustration. The student will learn the language and syntax of math through games, puzzles, discussion, and worksheets. 2A begins to put some context with multiplication and division. The student will begin to think in terms of groups and counting by specific numbers (5, 10, 15, 20. 2,4,6,8. etc). Specific goals are listed above.
I have 2 degrees in the field of education. I have been teaching Singapore math for a while now and have seen it do amazing things for my kids mathematical intelligence. My daughter used to loathe her former math curriculum but after the Singapore method it is now it is one of her favorite subjects. My 7 year old son has started to make some brilliant mathematical discoveries for his age including stating the associative property in his own words. It's been a thrilling ride to see them enjoy it.
The homework will be located in the workbook that the student purchases. The time commitment of homework depends on the individual but adjustments can always be made to adjust to the student. The student will also have access to the answers so they can check their own work or see how a problem is worked.
► 2A Work Book https://www.singaporemathshop.com/Dimensions_Math_Workbook_2A_p/dmw2a.htm ► Printed Resources (As Needed. Not all will be used) https://www.singaporemath.com/programs/dimensions-pk-5/resources/ ► Linking Cubes. A set of 200 should work for Second Grade. https://www.amazon.com/Learning-Resources-LER7584-Snap-Cubes/dp/B000G3LR9Y ► White Board https://www.amazon.com/Quick-Response-White-board-Handle/dp/B005ORCYD0 The student can use it to quickly show their answers in an online environment. I get mine at most dollar stores. ► 4 boxes of 250 toothpicks (1000) and assorted rubber bands would also help the student. An email will be sent every weekend to let parents know what printouts students will need in the following week. There are not many, some printouts are kept and used for the entire semester. There will also be videos to watch from Vimeo but those links will be sent as needed.
The learner will be informally assessed during every lesson through interaction with the teacher. A written assessment will be given every week to the parents to let them know how their student is doing.
2 hours 40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
