The Young Geographer Club encourages young learners to investigate and explore a range of geographical topics from a global perspective. This 5 week class explores the physical geography of the World’s rainforests through onscreen presentations, quizzes, and hands-on activities. Session 1: Rainforests Across the Globe Learners will explore the globe to locate areas of rainforest and make comparisons to other types of forest in other countries. Learners will carry out a case study activity for a specific rainforest. Session 2: Climate and Weather This lesson will differentiate between the climate and the weather of the rainforest, encouraging learners to use descriptive language to write a short weather report. Session 3: In the Trees Learners will complete a drawing activity to explore the different layers of the rainforest and their flora and fauna. Session 4: Animals and Plants Learners will find out some interesting facts about some of the animals and plants of the rainforest, grouping them into different classification groups. Session 5: The Human Impact Learners will begin to investigate the impacts of human activity in the rainforest, including the positives and negatives of deforestation.
