Class Experience

In this one - time class, students are invited to think about how well they know themselves and what makes them special. Students will discover this by learning about their thinking styles also know as Executive Functioning. Students will learn through discussions about a series of activities including viewing a video and reflection on their current thinking styles as well as thinking styles they want to develop for their future. Thinking styles are very important because communication and collaboration can be difficult if the differences in thinking are not the same. One person’s thinking can affect your perception of how to perceive information, solve problems, make decisions and how we communicate with other people. Most individuals possess multiple different thinking styles.

Students will be encouraged to consider their strengths/advantages, and possible drawbacks of different learning styles as they reflect on how they think. It is important to remember there is no right or wrong, and in fact, we each many use more than one style in different settings. The students will be sharing their own experiences and preferences for thinking styles and exploring new thinking styles. The important thing the students will learn is : The better we know ourselves, the better we can be strategic in how we approach learning, understanding others and succeeding in life.

This course is a great introduction to the All About YOUth program which is a 12 week course where students learn to strengthen self-confidence, understand emotions and “grow” their positive agency, in order to develop, thrive, and succeed in relationships, academically, and as future adults at home, work and play!

Learning Goals

Students will have a better understanding of their thinking styles and understand how the way we think affects our communication with other people. The goal of knowing ourselves better helps us understand how we learn, understand others and succeed in life.
