In this one-time class, learners will explore how volcanoes, form as a result of tectonic plate movement, what kinds of volcanoes there are and what different lava flows look like. Be prepared for an eruption as we create our own volcanoes!

In this one-time class, students will discover the fascinating science behind the explosive and disruptive disasters we witness on earth's surface. Using slides, games, and hands-on activities students will learn how volcanoes form. We will learn about the tectonic plate interaction that causes volcanoes, both on land and under the water, for example, oceanic to oceanic divergent plates cause underwater and island volcanoes, while oceanic to continental plates create on land volcanoes....
6+ oz play doh or clay, a disposable cup (Styrofoam or paper) with a quarter sized hole in the bottom, 1 Tbsp baking soda, 1 Tbsp dish soap, 2 Tbsp water, 1/2 cup vinegar, and a few drops of red food coloring (optional). Be sure to have a bowl or plate for underneath!
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
