Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
In this one-time class, students will discover the fascinating science behind the explosive and disruptive disasters we witness on earth's surface. Using slides, games, and hands-on activities students will learn how volcanoes form. We will learn about the tectonic plate interaction that causes volcanoes, both on land and under the water, for example, oceanic to oceanic divergent plates cause underwater and island volcanoes, while oceanic to continental plates create on land volcanoes. Learners will also discover the different types of volcanoes and what the eruption and lava look like for each.

Though slides and games students will learn key vocabulary including, but not limited to, tectonic plate, magma, divergent, cinder cone and more! They will learn key concepts as well: the movement of earths crust, layers of the earth, and regions with active plate movement.

With visual aids, students will see how tectonic plates can be dangerous and powerful. This class also include an interactive activity that requires materials. Please see listed materials below. No prior knowledge or experience is required for this class.
