Beginner Level
In this one time class, the students will listen to a fiction story called A Turkey For Dinner by Eve Bunting/Illustrations by Diane de Groat. The students will make predictions and text to self connections during the reading. The students will listen to the story read with fluency and expression by an experienced teacher. The students will discuss the problem in the story as well as how the story ended and how the problem was solved. The students will then do a step by step drawing of a turkey and will practice following directions. The students will then add labels to teach others about the parts of a turkey. When the turkey project is complete, the students will share their work with other students, if they feel comfortable doing so. I have a little turkey, his head goes wobble, wobble. All he ever says to me is Gobble, Gobble, Gobble.

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom. My name is Betty Nilssen. I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.
However, I incorporate math, writing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers, as well.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started! Use code: BettyNi2020 at checkout to try your first class and get $20 off. Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop their academic skills and gain academic confidence. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child! Mrs. Nilssen
