Class Experience

Learners will learn build their knowledge of Japanese sounds while being exposed to all 3 written scripts. They will learn to: make simple statements using “desu”, make simple requests using “kudasai” and simple preferences using “~ga suki”.
In University, I majored in Pacific and Asian Studies with a concentration in Japanese language and a minor in Linguistics. I lived in Japan for 10 years and passed the N2 level of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, which is held by the Ministry of Education in Japan. My strengths are speaking and listening, but I am qualified to teach grammar and reading to an intermediate level. In addition to becoming fairly fluent in Japanese, I have 17 years ESL teaching experience which gives me a keen ability to break down a language into manageable pieces for the learners. Cultural lessons are taught with self awareness and respect for all peoples.
No homework. Flashcards will be provided for optional additional study.
All students will receive a two pages, full colour set of original flashcards. If it is possible to print them before class, please do! They will be provided a minimum of 24-48 hours before the class start time.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
- Whiteboard.fi
Students can do an informal assessment of their own progress.
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
