Earthworms are a surprisingly complex creature and are great additions to our ecosystem. We will learn all about them and what makes them so neat. We will learn about their anatomical features, how they intake nutrients and process them as well as why they are so important to the ecosystem. On the last day of class we will have a live dissection of an earthworm to explore what we have learned in class.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the anatomical features of annelids, different types of annelids and how they live and grow. We will also discuss why they are important to an ecosystem. The dissection will be conducted by the teacher where she can field questions and students can observe the various anatomical features that have been studied.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
A live dissection of an earthworm will take place the last day of class. Some students may experience queasiness. This will be a prepared specimen and certainly not a live specimen that is dissected.
Supply List
Any necessary worksheets will be provided by the teacher. These will be sent via email.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
