Spelling can be tricky for many students because there are so many rules and exceptions, but in this lively, energetic class, we make learning fun! Through engaging activities, students will master tricky spelling rules while building self-confidence! **REVIEW-Each class kicks off with an engaging and creative review of the previous week's words and skills. I will also ask your child to recall other skills we've covered earlier, helping to reinforce their learning. Instead of establishing a goal of simply memorizing 10 words each week, my goal for your child is to have them fully grasp the concepts and successfully apply the skills they learn, ensuring long-term retention and understanding. **NEW SKILL-There’s always a new skill or rule to learn! I created all of my lessons using Google Slides. They are interactive and engaging for all students. **STUDENT PARTICIPATION-students are actively involved in the lesson from the beginning, taking part in whatever activity that day’s lesson involves. Some daily lesson activities include: breaking words apart, finding patterns, and naming syllables. **SPELLING GAMES-We end each class with one of many interactive spelling games giving students the opportunity to practice and apply what they have learned in a fun and engaging way. We will explore a large variety of spelling topics, including phonics-based spelling skills: vowels, consonants, blends, and phonograms; syllable types and spelling patterns; prefixes, suffixes, and root words; high-frequency words and tricky spelling rules, and much more. The All About Spelling program is based on the Orton-Gillingham method, a multi-sensory, structured approach to spelling. Whether your child is starting at Level 1 or advancing through higher levels, this method helps students develop a strong foundation in spelling by understanding the WHY behind spelling rules, rather than just memorizing word lists. All About Spelling is especially effective for struggling spellers and students with learning differences, such as dyslexia. Certain elements of this program, including phonics-based spelling practice, word pattern recognition, and consistent skill reinforcement, provide children with the tools and strategies they need to become confident and successful spellers Mistakes are welcomed and encouraged—they’re part of the learning process!! Students will always find a positive, supportive environment where they can feel comfortable taking risks, overcoming challenges, and celebrating successes—big or small! If you don’t see a time that fits your schedule, feel free to send me a message—I’ll do my best to accommodate.
Learning Goals
Improve phonemic awareness (sounds within words)
Develop strong encoding skills (break words into smaller parts)

Parental Guidance
Consistent practice at home is key to helping your child master the spelling skills introduced in class. Since this program follows a step-by-step approach, each new concept builds upon the last. A strong foundation is essential for success, so reinforcing these skills through extra practice at home will greatly benefit your child’s progress and confidence.
