Did you know that Silkie chickens are gentle, kind birds who love company, love being mothers and adore being held and fussed over? They are the teddy bears of the chicken world! This will be a fun and memorable class for any child (5-10) who is interested in learning more about this most extraordinary chicken breed! My teaching style is warm and friendly and I love talking about animals! I have many years experience owning and raising fluffy Silkie chickens and I’m excited to share my passion about these wonderful creatures with your chicken enthusiast! We will start the class with a story that I will read about a Silkie Chicken while your child has the opportunity to color a silkie coloring page (optional). Then I will share a powerpoint presentation all about my experience raising silkie chickens and the care and keeping of these fluffy adorable birds who make the best pets ever! And, maybe one day, you will want to have your own silkie flock too! So, here is all you will need to know to be the best Silkie chicken farmer around! And, as a sweet surprise, I will then bring out one of my real silkie chicks too, to share with the class as I teach all about the ways that silkie chickens make the best chicken mamas ever! For the last 5 minutes, we will finish with a time of questions and discussion and sharing of our coloring page (as time allows)! Silkies really are the best chickens ever, so come ready to learn and have fun too!

Hello there! My name is Teacher Johanna! I am so excited to teach your child and witness their joy of learning! I am committed to making sure it is fun, enjoyable and thorough!
I graduated college with Honors status and received a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. I have over 20 years experience teaching children in and out of the classroom, with a focus on teaching early childhood, English phonics, reading and literature and nature! I have experience starting and running my own preschool out of my home. Also, I am a certified TESOL and TEFL teacher who has been teaching online ESL (English Speakers of Other Languages) to students ages 4-12, since 2017, where I specialize in teaching phonics and reading classes to young children and older childern.
Furthermore, I am currently and have successfully homeschooled my own 8 children (ages 4-20), including my four adopted children from China! My passions include teaching children of all ages, world travel, reading, spending time with family, photography, writing, nature, gardening, art, and taking care of the many animals on our farm! I believe the world is our classroom and books are our maps! I try to get outside and do most of our learning and reading in nature where there is always a treasure to unearth and new discoveries to be made!
Literature is a huge passion of mine and I love taking students on adventures through the dual gift of "nature" and "literature!" I love to combine stories, nature, and experience into my thematic and engaging classes.
Most of all, nothing gives me greater joy and excitement than helping a child succeed and learn new things in life and watching all the light in their eyes emerge as they learn something fascinating or get lost in the wonder of a story! I will be offering a variety of classes in many subject areas that all have JOY as a common theme!
