1 in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class students will learn the fundamentals of how to care for reptiles, and what goes into being a responsible reptile caretaker. We will go over topics such as: types of reptiles, unique reptile characteristics, appropriate diets, enclosure set up, lighting and heat, enrichment, health requirements and responsible pet choices. Any students interested in learning about taking care of reptiles are welcome, especially students who would like, or already own, a pet reptile. This is a discussion based class where students will follow along with a PowerPoint presentation. Students are highly encouraged to ask questions and engage in dialogue with the class. Students will have the chance to apply the knowledge they learn in the class directly with interactive games, slides and discussion. There will also be time set aside at the end of the lesson for students to ask any questions about the lesson material, and any other related questions about animal care taking or zoo-keeping.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome parents and students!
Does your child love animals? Are they considering a career working with animals? Do they want to learn more about taking care of their pets like a zookeeper? Then you've come to the right place!
My name is Julie, and I have been a zookeeper and animal educator for over 7 years! As a zookeeper a large part of my job is to educate the public and encourage a passion for wildlife and conservation, and this is especially important for children and teenagers. When I was young going to the zoo was one of my favorite things, and the passion for wildlife that was instilled in me there has stayed with me to this day. If your child is considering a career working with animals, wants to be a better pet owner or just loves animals and wants to learn more about them, I hope they’ll consider taking one of my classes.
I believe in an encouraging and engaging classroom environment, with lots of chances for students to directly apply the information they learn. I love it when my students ask questions and share their interests in class. I believe every day is a chance to learn something new and I love to learn from my students just as much as I love sharing my knowledge with them! My hope for every class is for each student to walk away feeling like they’ve learned something interesting and valuable, and that they are encouraged to continue to learn more and achieve their goals.
