Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Play and learn with the All About Reading Program, Level 4! This class will work through the 63 lessons from All About Reading Level 4, plus 3 review lessons. Students will learn the concepts from each lesson using online games to improve reading skills. This level includes a lot of information. During our 25-minute lessons, I will introduce a new concept, or for story lessons, we will review and start the story. We will not be able to complete the whole lesson or story during our 25-minute class. The classes are intended to be an introduction to each AAR lesson. Between classes, please review using the activity book, phonograms, word cards, and readers.

Classes will begin with a phonogram (letter) review. After review, a new concept or phonogram will be introduced. Students will participate in games and other activities through my desk camera, Genially slides, or Google slides. Activities may include additional stories, games, videos, and songs. Students will practice: Letters & Sounds, Blending, Decoding, Leap (sight) Words, and Comprehension.

Concept/Phonogram classes will introduce and practice the main concepts. For example, the lesson Words with Two Suffixes will introduce and practice reading those words using games, phrases, and sentences. During story lessons, we will begin with a review of the concept and then start the story. We will not have enough class time to finish the story. Please plan to read the story with your learner between classes.

On days students are not in class, please spend 10-20 minutes reviewing the AAR lesson materials. Students and parents can complete lesson stories and activities from the All About Reading Student Activity Book. The student packet includes pages to practice reading and activity pages.

******
Fall 2025 - Spring 2026: If you would like your student to attend 4 days a week, there are two classes offered at the same time on Monday/Wednesday and Tuesday/Friday. (Both class sets will cover the same material. However, this can be helpful for many students.)

***Students must have their own copy of the curriculum before class. You do not need to purchase the full curriculum, but you will need the student packet and the 2 readers. Here is a link to the curriculum: https://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/all-about-reading-level-4/

You may be able to find materials on eBay or Rainbow Resource Center (I suggest ordering the color edition if you order from someplace other than AAR). https://www.rainbowresource.com/all-about-reading-level-4-color-edition

*Please have paper and pencils available during class. If we do an activity page from the Student Book in class please have the activity prepared before class by cutting out the activity. If we will be doing an Activity Book activity or if there are any printouts, notice will given in the classroom message.

After each class, I will post a review of what the class covered. If the student needs a printout or cut-out activity from the student workbook for the next class, that information will be posted in the prior class review.

***Level 4 students will need to have completed Level 3 or have been placed in Level 4 on the All About Reading website (https://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/reading-placement).

***This class requires a minimum of 3 students. If the minimum is not met, the students can choose private lessons ($29 per lesson).

If you have questions about All About Reading or need help selecting a level please message me.

I suggest playing these activities with your student on days we do not meet.

Hello!
My name is Kate. I am a homeschool mom, small farm owner, herbalist, gluten-free baker, online teacher, and lover of books. I have taught for over 20 years: home school, alternative education, small co-ops, and as a substitute in public schools. Additionally, I have taught English as a Second Language online with VIPKid and Cambly for over 6 years. It has been amazing meeting and working with students around the world. I love getting to know each of my students and helping them learn new things in a fun way.

All About Reading: 20 years ago, when I first began teaching reading, I was trained in the Spaulding reading method. Spaulding is based on Orton-Gillingham and is similar to the All About Reading Program. When I was introduced to All About Reading I was hooked. All About Reading provided the sequential layout that I loved from Spaulding in an easier layout. I also loved the games that provided a multi-sensory experience for my students. I love to use games when I am teaching. I think learning should be enjoyable. In my reading classes, we turn the All About Reading program into fun online games.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing your child in my class.

(A little about my family and philosophy: I have two homeschool graduates and two young learners. Throughout our homeschool journey, we learned, we grew, we did better next time, and we found success. I believe it is important to meet children where they are. To strengthen their weaknesses and support their strengths while having fun and encouraging them to be who they were meant to be. )
