What's included

66 live meetings
27 hrs 30 mins in-class hours
Homework
1-2 hours per week. I will go over the concepts of each lesson, however, we will not be able to read all of the words and stories for each lesson in class. Students will need to review the lesson materials found in the All About Reading Student Packet and readers, which includes phonogram and word card review, reading activity pages, and reading the stories. I suggest reviewing for 10 - 20 minutes on the days we do not meet. Your time with your student may look like this: practice phonograms and word cards, read the words, phrases, and sentences located in the student activity book for the previous lesson, practice the sentences on the student activity book page or read a story from the reader. AAR suggests not spending more than 20 minutes per learning session. You can also use the digital resources I provide for additional short practice time during the day (or while away from home) as needed.

On days we are not in class, please spend 10-20 minutes reviewing the AAR lesson materials. The student packet includes pages to practice reading and game activity pages. I suggest using the activities with your student on days we do not meet to reinforce the lesson.

*Activity pages will need cut out to play. (A few activities need to be glued or stapled). You can cut out the activities before class if you would like your student to use their own materials during class. I will also show the activities through my desk camera, Genially slides, or Google Drive so it is not necessary to cut these out before class.

Sometimes during class, we may color or write letters. I will sometimes send out a color or writing page before class. Please have any printouts, pencils, and markers/crayons/colored pencils available during class. Any printouts will be found in the classroom messages. After each class, I will post a review of what the class covered. If the student needs a printout or cut-out activity from the student workbook for the next class, that information will be posted in the prior class review.

Students will need to have purchased their own copy of the curriculum before class. You do not need to purchase the full curriculum, but you will need to the student packet and the 2 readers. Here is a link to the curriculum: https://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/all-about-reading-level-2/

You may be able to find materials on Ebay or Rainbow Resource Center (I suggest ordering the color edition if you order from someplace other than AAR). https://www.rainbowresource.com/category.jhtm?cid=2392

***This class requires a minimum of 3 students. If the minimum is not met, the students can choose private lessons ($29 per lesson) or a small group class ($50 per week).

Hello!
My name is Kate. I am a homeschool mom, small farm owner, herbalist, gluten-free baker, online teacher, and lover of books. I have taught for over 20 years: home school, alternative education, small co-ops, and as a substitute in public schools. Additionally, I have taught English as a Second Language online with VIPKid and Cambly for over 6 years. It has been amazing meeting and working with students around the world. I love getting to know each of my students and helping them learn new things in a fun way.

All About Reading: 20 years ago, when I first began teaching reading, I was trained in the Spaulding reading method. Spaulding is based on Orton-Gillingham and is similar to the All About Reading Program. When I was introduced to All About Reading I was hooked. All About Reading provided the sequential layout that I loved from Spaulding in an easier layout. I also loved the games that provided a multi-sensory experience for my students. I love to use games when I am teaching. I think learning should be enjoyable. In my reading classes, we turn the All About Reading program into fun online games.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing your child in my class.

(A little about my family and philosophy: I have two homeschool graduates and two young learners. Throughout our homeschool journey, we learned, we grew, we did better next time, and we found success. I believe it is important to meet children where they are. To strengthen their weaknesses and support their strengths while having fun and encouraging them to be who they were meant to be. )
