In this class, students will review 4 of the 7 jobs of Silent E. These 4 jobs were taught in Level 2 of the All About Reading Program: 1) Silent E can make the vowel before it long. 2) Silent E can make C and G soft. 3) Silent E keeps U and V from being the last letter. 4) Silent E shows that the word is not plural. The final 3 jobs are introduced in level 3 of the All About Reading program. During class, students will learn the concept and then practice using online games. If your student has All About Reading level 2 they will be able to read the related stories between classes. All students will receive a link to online games to practice between classes. These are not mandatory but are encouraged. I find most students enjoy them. This course is part of a two-part series to prepare for level 3 of All About Reading. Students can take this course before starting Level 3 or as a stand-alone course. The other course in this series is Silent E Jobs.

Pre-Requisites
This course is designed for students who have completed All About Reading Level 2 or who are preparing for All About Reading Level 3 (based on AAR online assessment - https://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/reading-placement ).
Supply List
Students who have All About Reading Level 2 - student packet and 2 readers can use these for review. However, they are not required for this short course. Students may wish to purchase All About Reading Level 3 - student packet and 2 readers to prepare for Level 3: https://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/all-about-reading-level-3/ To better hear student pronunciation, I recommend (but do not require) that students have a headset with a microphone or a microphone in class. Here are a couple of options: Headset (this is the headset I use): https://a.co/d/69gT5C0 Microphone (this microphone has the option of plugging in headphones): https://a.co/d/dTrd6q5

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree from Washington State University
I have taught reading for over 15 years as a homeschool parent and a substitute teacher in US public schools. I was initially trained in the Spaulding Method, which is another Orton Gillingham style reading program. However, I transitioned to All About Reading to better support my oldest son, who faced learning challenges including dyslexia. This journey has equipped me with unique insights into effective reading instruction tailored to individual needs.
