Description
Class Experience
Your student will learn how to code with Python, one of the world's most popular coding languages. There is no coding experience necessary for this class, and it will be fun for everyone! Students will even code their own mad libs game and rock, paper, scissors game using Python code. Your student will be amazed at what they can do at the end of this summer camp and be ready to continue their coding journey. Students can continue learning more in Level II, III, and IV camps and also a camp...
This class is taught in English.
Students will be introduced to Python and learn the foundations of the language. This allows them to confidently move onto more complex code and continue their coding journey. The camp is also intended to encourage students to get excited about the possibilities of coding and computer science!
Over 5,000 students from nearly 100 countries across a variety of platforms have started coding in one of my classes. I offer classes covering the foundations of Python, JavaScript, AI. I am the author of the soon-to-be released book All About Python for Kids. Before teaching, I worked as a developer for nearly 10 years. I've worked for organizations including Apple, Dell, and Best Buy. I believe the best way to learn is by doing and all my classes are based around hands-on projects that progressively build in difficulty. I'm a graduate of Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. I can't wait to meet your learner in the class and get started soon.
There are practice challenges and review questions that every student is encouraged to complete. These usually take about 30 minutes per day to complete.
Students will use the Raspberry Pi Python code editor for this class. This is a free code editor and will work on any Windows, Apple Mac, Chromebook, or Linux computer. Students should use a laptop or desktop computer for the class with a full keyboard. ****To do well in this class, students need to be very comfortable typing with both hands, know how to copy and paste on their device, and have a laptop or desktop computer.****
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
4 hours per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
