This course provides a fun and detailed introduction to owls. We'll learn about many different types of owls, how to tell them apart, and where in the world they live. We'll look at what they eat, where they like to nest, and what makes them unique. This class will be very visual and interactive. I will show pictures I've taken of owls. The participants will get to name the owls. I provide pictures for kids to color during the class and then we compare what they did at the end of the session. I show maps where particular owls live so they learn some geography and name some countries. I tell stories about some of the owls. There is no required knowledge or experience for this class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I was an instructor at George Mason University, University of Massachusetts, and University of Virginia. I've coached High School Debate (we finished 2nd in the country at NFL). I've coached youth soccer (including multiple all-star teams). I've coached multiple Odyssey of the Mind teams. I've authored 5 non-fiction books and multiple articles in professional journals. And I've been a guest presenter on a range of topics for elementary and middle schools in their GT programs. I teach a wide range of diverse classes (consistent with my interests and experience). I'm a big believer that learning works best when it is interactive (so I believe in having lots of activities), it is organized (I have clear learning objectives and my courses are structured), and fun (I look for ways to engage learners and find information that appeals to them and makes the subject come alive). I used to compete in agility with my rat terrier Ike. And I've visited in person over 30 Civil War battlefields.
If you want to schedule a class with me that isn't at a previously scheduled time or I'm not listed as available, just message me. We can probably work something out.
