Class Experience

**Note- If you do not see a section available and you would like to take the class, feel free to request a section and I will work to get one booked for you**

Students will learn from a variety of methods including lecture (teacher talking), demonstrations, and video clips. Students will be able to ask questions throughout this part and the teacher can give feedback and check for understanding using questions. We will learn and discuss what owl pellets are and how they help us learn about owls and the environment they live in. Students will then dissect an owl pellet with the teacher. If they are unable to acquire an owl pellet the student can simply watch the demonstration but it is much more engaging to be able to do the dissection themselves.

No owl pellet? No Problem! There is still a ton to do in the class and an optional activity will be given in place of the dissection.
Learning Goals
At the end of the session students will be able to describe what an owl pellet is and were we find them. They will be able to give examples of why a scientist might want to study them. Students will also be able to identify several bones found within the pellets and sort them by species.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
The students are encouraged to get an owl pellet for this class. Inside the owl pellets are real bones from the organisms that the owl ingested. This is super neat to most students, but just keep this in mind incase your student is super squeamish.
Supply List
Reference guides will be provided to the students by the teacher. They will be posted in the classroom before class starts and can be printed out or a digital version can be referenced.

Students are highly recommended to purchase at least 1 owl pellet before the class starts. There are many options on amazon
