Class Experience

This class is perfect for the young learner who loves to draw people but is starting to experience frustration when they can't make their drawings look more realistic. It is a perfect follow-up to my 'All About Faces!' class, or for any learner who is looking for a deeper dive into drawing beautiful noses, mouths, and ears.

I will be teaching the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to draw these three features successfully including the anatomy, components, and physical structures, how to shade and represent 3-dimensional forms, and how to easily draw details such as nostrils, lips, and the folds of the ear.
I will also be introducing early concepts in observational drawing such as measuring and placement, negative space, and seeing values.

All levels and abilities are welcome - we will meet your learner where they're at and there's enough content here that the same learner could attend multiple times and still be learning new things.

Learners will be able to see my drawing surface and watch me demonstrate in real-time while they follow along with their own drawing as I give intentional support, feedback, and encouragement.

Around this age, many children become interested in adding more complexity and detail to their work, often wishing to make their drawings more realistic. Without instruction on how to do this correctly, young artists may become frustrated and start judging their drawings harshly. As a result, many will lose interest and eventually stop drawing altogether. This is how you get adults who will exclaim that they "cannot draw at all!" even though they long to express themselves through art!
With just the right amount of guidance and encouragement however, children can learn to work through this frustration, improve their skills, and gain a confidence in their drawing abilities that will carry into adulthood and allow them to continue expressing their feelings and ideas in a visual way. All of my classes include an emphasis on maintaining a healthy and positive mindset around art-making, with a focus on process, learning, and enjoyment over the end result.

My goal for this class is for your learner to add some new tools to their 'art toolbox' and gain confidence in their drawing abilities, allowing them to maintain a joyful love for art-making at this crucial developmental age!
