Beginner Level
In this one time class, the learners will listen to a story called I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont. The learners will be encouraged to interact with the reading and practice making text to self connections. The learners will then create a directed drawing of a mirror and their face using their listening skills and creative talents. We will work on adding color and patterns in art. They will be encouraged to share their final project with other learners, if they feel comfortable doing so. The finished project will be beautiful enough to hang on the refrigerator or a bedroom wall for all to admire!
Learning Goals
-Students will use listening skills by hearing a story and focusing on reasons why they are unique and special.
~Students will learn to make text to self connections.
-Students will use creative skills by drawing and coloring a mirror with their face reflecting back.
-Students will use patterning skills to decorate the mirrors.
~Students will interact with other students.

Students will need paper and crayons or colored pencils.

Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom.
My name is Betty Nilssen. 💕
I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade, full inclusive classrooms. My teaching license certifies me to teach grades 1~6. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power. I can support your young learner.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers. My mom was also an educator.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw and label. Let's get started!
