Homework
1-2 hours per week. Each lesson will provide a PDF download containing a hands-on activity or printable related to the medieval theme, integrating reading, math, science, and problem-solving. While there won't be any formal assessment for these tasks, students are encouraged to engage with them to enhance their unit study experience. Additionally, a set of journaling pages will be available for students to illustrate and write about their learnings. These pages are optional but aim to enrich the learners' experience.
Certificate of Completion
If desired, a certificate of completion will be provided at the end of the course.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Embark on a time-traveling adventure with this medieval times unit study. This engaging self-paced class offers 5 pre-recorded lessons packed with captivating videos, interactive games, and more. Dive deeper into the age of knights and castles with optional hands-on homework and journaling pages, bringing history to life in fun and creative ways. Perfect for curious minds ready to explore the past!

This class will consist of five short and easy lessons. They are filled with engaging pictures and videos, with the material being taught by me in video format. Each lesson will also conclude with an interactive game. Everything is contained within slide shows in Canva, which students can access with a view-only link. No sign-in or account creation is required and no other websites are needed.

Also included in this class are homework suggestions to fully engage and immerse learners. They will receive a PDF download with each lesson that includes a hands-on activity and/or printable. A set of journaling pages about our topic will also be provided. These are meant to aid students in creating their own personalized learning notebook, thereby enriching their understanding of the subject.

This unit study is designed to be completed over the course of two weeks, but students will have all the materials available and can move through it at their own pace. I will also be available to answer questions and give guidance as needed.

Learning Goals

Investigate the various types of medieval castles and uncover their unique characteristics.
Discover the lives of medieval knights, including their training processes and the code of chivalry they adhered to.

Syllabus

5 Lessons
over 2 Weeks
Lesson 1:
Medieval Castles
 In this lesson we will discuss some of the most common types of castles built during medieval times, as well as their most important features. A castle labeling activity will also be provided. 
Lesson 2:
Medieval Knights
 In this lesson we will learn all about the lives of medieval knights, including their training process, the code of chivalry they aspired to, and the armor and equipment they used. Students will also have the opportunity to create their own knight's code booklet as part of their homework. 
Lesson 3:
Medieval Jobs and Trades
 In this lesson we will cover the importance of guilds in medieval life. We will also talk about some of the jobs and trades that people had during that time. A printable for a medieval jobs matching game will also be included. 
Lesson 4:
Medieval Festivals and Entertainment
 In this lesson we will discuss what people in medieval times did for entertainment and some of the festivals and sporting events they would attend. Students will also be able to plan and design their own medieval festival as part of their assignment.

The lessons for this class are hosted on Canva (an Outschool approved resource) as slideshows. Students will receive a view-only link for each one - there is no sign-in or account creation required.
