In this ongoing class, students will have the chance to learn about and discuss a different element of Japanese culture each week! We will cover many different possible areas of interest, ranging from history, holidays, and cuisine to travel, geography, and anime. This class will take on more the feeling of a discussion club than a formal course, and it is designed to give students with an interest in Japan a chance to delve deeper into their interest and share it with other like-minded...
Students will deepen their knowledge of many different areas of Japanese culture and develop an increased appreciation for it. They will develop discussion skills, learning to express their own perspectives well while also learning to listen to and engage respectfully with others.
I have chosen to create this class largely out of my own passion for Japanese culture. I have a Bachelor's degree in History, with a specialization in Japanese history, having written a thesis on the subject. This was paired with a minor in Japanese language and culture. Beyond that, I have done much personal research and reading on the subject, ranging from literature to documentaries to further language study. I am always learning and love to share that with others!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
