In this one-time class, we will learn all about homophones: words that sound the same, but have different meanings! Sometimes choosing the right word can be difficult, especially when it sounds the same as another word. This class will help learners have the knowledge to use the RIGHT vocabulary word in their WRITING! We will read Dear Deer by Gene Barretta and hear all sorts of homophones used in this silly story. Then I will use a presentation to introduce our vocabulary words with images that represent each word. Learners will follow along, creating their own drawings to help remember their vocabulary words on a handout provided {this will be posted in the classroom when you enroll}. After we have gone over our vocabulary words {7 sets of words will be covered in class}, we will play a fun game on Blooket.com where learners can put their skills to the test! Blooket is similar to Kahoot, with even more fun games! After the class ends, there will be a worksheet provided for students to get some extra practice in with their new vocabulary words. This worksheet is *optional* to do, but you are always welcome to upload the worksheet back to me (either in the classroom or in a private message) for feedback! The link to the Blooket game (which can be played solo) will also be available after the class ends for learners to keep practicing in a fun and engaging format! Vocabulary List List C - dear/deer, grate/great, hour/our, knew/new, knight/night, tail/tale, ware/wear/where **be on the lookout for new lists and always feel free to reach out to me with words you would like to see on future lists!**

Teacher expertise and credentials
South Carolina Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hi there! My name is Shelby and I have a passion for teaching.
I have a background in dance, beginning my training at age two, and most recently spent four years running a dance program on an Army base in Germany. I was able to teach ballet, tap, and jazz to students ages 2.5-18. There we had daily classes year round, all cultivating in a big end of year production the teachers would create and choreograph ourselves!
I also hold degrees in Elementary and Special Education and have just finished working as a 3rd grade teacher. I am stepping out of the classroom (temporarily!) while our family transitions out of the Army and moves across the country.
Although my degree will be coming later in life than some, the path I chose has allowed me to follow some of my other passions~ becoming a dance teacher and running my own classes for four years, as well as start my family!
I am an Army Brat, turned Army Spouse, and mommy to two sweet little boys (and a puppy mom to two large boys as well!). Children and teaching have always been a love of mine for as long as I can remember, and I cannot wait to share my passions and help grow the minds of your learners!
