Have you ever been to the 50th state in the US? Hawaii is a beautiful place, and somewhere many people only dream of visiting. In this class, you will learn all about Hawaii, but without all that touristy stuff. You will learn about the REAL Hawaii from a REAL Islander! 🌴I was born in Hawaii and lived there my entire life. My family is currently experiencing our first adventure living outside of Hawaii. We moved to North Idaho this Spring. I am excited to share with others, the unique and ethnically diverse place that I know as home. . . the only Island state in the U.S., Hawaii. 🏄♂️The Hawaii that most visitors experience is a bit different than the Island Life and Culture that Hawaii residents, or kama'aina, know. 🏝This will serve as a crash course about the 50th state of the US, as explained by a person born and raised in the islands. In this class, I will be teaching students a bit about the Hawaiian language and how to successfully read those Hawaiian words! I will also teach students about what it is like growing up in Hawaii, about the food, the customs, the celebrations, and some of its history. 🌺At the end of this class, students will also have an opportunity to ask questions or share their own experiences with Hawaii. MEETING AGENDA 5 minutes - Introductions 40 minutes - Slide Show Presentation Lesson about Hawaiian Language, 50th State Facts, Food and Ethnic Influences, Cultural Celebrations, Luaus, Animals, Surfing and Hawaii Pastimes, Hawaii Geology and Volcanoes.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hawaii Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Bachelor's Degree in Education from University of Hawaii West Oahu
I have been a licensed elementary school teacher since 2012. I have taught grades K, 1, 4, 5, and 6 while in the public education system in Hawaii. During 2020, when schools moved to distance learning as a safety precaution, I found a love for teaching online. I appreciated the benefits online school when I saw that some of my students who struggled socially were suddenly comfortable and confident online! In 2021, my family moved to Idaho and I began teaching on Outschool. One of my favorite things about teaching online is meeting students from all around the world!
I was born to 2nd generation immigrant families. My father's side is Japanese-American, and my mother's side is Filipino-American. Hawaii is very multi-cultural place so being born and raised there makes me truly appreciate different cultures, food, and places.
My teaching style is engaging, interactive, and very relational. I feel that positive human connection cultivates an environment for optimum learning.
My favorite subjects to learn, and to teach, are Science, Math, Art, Engineering, and Philosophy. I love learning new methods, exploring new ideas, and tackling new challenges.
