Guinea pigs are very popular pets, largely due to their exceptionally sweet personalities. In this class, we will learn about where guinea pigs come from, what their behavior and anatomy is like, what they eat (and why), and how one would best care for them as pets. I will be assisted by my own guinea pigs, Hazel and Cashew, who will help demonstrate important concepts related to guinea pig behavior and anatomy. I encourage students to bring any and all questions they might have about guinea pigs!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! I teach classes about animals, government, and communication. I am currently a veterinary student at Tufts University in Massachusetts, after graduating from Michigan State University with a B.S. in Zoology and a B.A. in Public Policy. I have worked with companion, exotic, and agricultural animals for most of my life, and have a passion for teaching the next generation about the earth and all of its fascinating creatures.
Additionally, I was a nationally ranked competitive debater during my eight years in high school and college policy debate. During my time teaching middle school, high school, and college debate, I have seen how learning to debate can legitimately change a person's life by giving them the tools to structure and communicate their thoughts. There is nothing I enjoy more than watching children gain confidence and communication skills through debate.
I highly value interaction with students. Children's curiosity is their greatest strength, and I always encourage students to ask any and all questions that come to mind, especially if they are on the quieter side.
On a personal note, my current household includes: a corn snake, leopard gecko, Russian tortoise, 2 guinea pigs, and a puppy. I love using my pets as examples in class, to demonstrate important concepts related to anatomy and behavior.
