Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
In this interactive course learners will develop and use a model to show how genetic information is passed from a parent to an offspring either through asexual or sexual reproduction. Learners will construct punnett squares showing the potential outcomes for each offspring based off the parents traits. Then they will embark on a Genetic Creature activity, while learning the following terms phenotype, genotype, dominant, recessive and allele. At the end of class learners will be able to draw out their new Genetic Creature.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello,

Currently, I am a 7th grade Science teacher. I have taught for 10 years including teaching students from 6th grade to 8th grade. For the last 6 years I have coached the High School Girls Bowling Team. I am currently certified as a Google Educator: Level 1 and 2, as well as a certified Newsela Teacher. I have just finished my Masters in Education with a K-12 technology certification.

All of the classes I teach online will be cross curricular. I love incorporating as many areas of study into my lessons to allow students to see beyond just a science topic and how knowledge can be applied in many areas. I believe that education should not only teach students basic skills but push students outside of their comfort zones into exploring something new and exciting. I expect all students to work to their highest ability level no matter the circumstances they are in. Our history is what shapes our futures and I want to be a positive impact on those histories.

A few fun facts about me: I have two little boys (7 and 5). They keep me busy all the time. I absolutely love when they learn something new or when they teach me something new. I always try to push myself in learning new things to help better influence the students in my classroom. I am not only a bowling coach but I am a bowler myself. I also love to cross stitch (this may have to be a class).
