Who loves dolphins?! I know I do! In this 5-week flex class, we will learn all about dolphins. NO LIVE MEETINGS Here’s a summary of what we will do and learn: - What are dolphins - What do they look like - Where do they live - How long do they live - What do they eat - What do they do - How long do they live - How do they grow - How do they find food and why they blubber - What are the threats to dolphins We will complete fun worksheet activities, learn new fun facts about dolphins, watch fun videos and live aquarium webcams, research, and more! NO LIVE MEETINGS - Although we won’t be meeting live, there will be plenty of student-teacher interaction. You must check in at least 4 times a week to respond to your teacher and classmates and review each other’s work. You will have until Sunday every week to respond and complete activities. We lead discussions via posts in the Outschool classroom. Post a personalised feedback videos for each student. Students evaluate each others’ work. Students can create and upload their own videos to demonstrate their learning and comment on their peers’ posts. All activities, PDFS, pre-recorded videos, homework will be shared in our Outschool classroom 4-5 times a week. This is a discounted flex schedule class. There are NO live meetings for this class. Super fun! Week 1 (Mon-Fri) : - Learners and teacher introduction. Comment on “Students Share” post and say hello to other learners. - Watch my intro video about Dolphins. - Read text and circle any unknown words. - Complete vocabulary worksheets. - Label parts of the dolphins - Complete the sentences - Group discussion about dolphins and favourite sea animals. Week 2: - Let’s watch a fun video about dolphins and comment on the video “how smart are dolphins.” - Read text - Print and complete “Where do dolphins live” worksheet. Upload picture to the classroom or make a short video completing the activity. Comment on your peers’ submissions. - Write about Dolphins using evidence and details from the text to support your opinions or topic. - Complete dolphin maze activity - Complete what do dolphins do activity and circle the correct answer. - Art: let’s make dolphin scene out of paper plates. Week 3: - Let’s watch Aquarium live webcam - Watch a YouTube video “Dolphins acrobatics” - Read text - Complete “life of a dolphin” activity and post to the classroom - Group activity and discussion: Complete “finding text evidence” worksheets and use evidence from the text to support your answer. Help your peers with their answers. - Learn more fun facts about dolphins. Share your own facts you already know or researched. - Art: Let’s make a dolphin. Cut out the pieces and assemble using the assembling guide. Take a picture and post to the classroom. Week 4: Complete and share with your peers. - Watch a whale playing with dolphins and dusky dolphins and Bull Sperm whales videos. - Complete “inquiring” worksheets, read text, print and write down your answers to the questions “how do dolphins find food”. Write down what you learned. Optional activity included. - Print and complete “why do dolphins have blubber?”, read text, write down what you learned. - Print and complete “what are the threats to dolphins.” Write down what you learned and where you found the answer. - Print and complete “I have a question about dolphins.” Or type your question in the classroom and respond to your peers. - Complete Pair and share: The best thing I learned. Share your answers with your peers and ask them questions. - This week, you will also have an option to write down a summary of what you learned about dolphins in the classroom or submit a video and ask any questions you still have about them. Week 5: - Let’s play on Kahoot! A quiz about dolphins and see who ranks up. - Print, put together & fill out “my dolphin lapbook” - Complete graphic organisers worksheets and submit to class. Comment on your peers’ submissions. - Trace and colour
