I will teach about 5 different dinosaurs and students will learn the difference between herbivores and carnivores. I created a PowerPoint about these 5 dinosaurs that I will use with students. I ask many questions and there will be a discussion time for students. As a school counselor, social skill development is very important to me, so I will help guide students to interact with one another. Finally, we will play 2 fun activities. One is a "Would You Rather?" dinosaur edition with questions all about dinosaurs. The other fun activity involves dinosaur props and toys where students will be given clues and try to guess the dinosaur I am holding. All that I require learners to bring with them to the lesson is a good attitude, willingness to listen, and a love of dinosaurs!
Learning Goals
Students will learn details about 5 different types of dinosaurs, the difference between herbivores and carnivores, and how to share their opinions politely while being good listeners to others.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Details about dinosaurs will be taught which include the fact that dinosaurs ate other animals. I will not go into detail about how dinosaurs hunted other animals in this lesson.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree in Education from University of Nevada, Las Vegas
I am an elementary school counselor with 18 years of experience. I also teach on other online platforms - VIPKID, Cambly, and Zebra English. During my school counseling career, I've taught many topics in classrooms including self-esteem, coping skills, anger management, social skills, and more. I've also had the pleasure of running clubs based on topics of dinosaurs, unicorns, math, writing, and much more! Being able to share my interests with my students is a luxury!
In Outschool, some of the classes I plan on teaching will include topics on dinosaurs, unicorns, self-esteem, mindfulness, relaxation, coping skills, anger management, social skills, K-2nd grade math, and writing. I truly enjoy teaching these topics and look forward to working with your student!
My teaching style is interactive and learner-focused. I often use power points, stories I've written, discussions, and games in my lessons! I believe that teaching should not only help students learn about the topic being taught but that it should also be engaging and fun!
In my free time, I enjoy hiking, reading, playing with my son and our dog, exercising, and traveling. I believe life is meant to be lived and enjoyed to the fullest!
