Class Experience

Beginner Level
In this one time class, learners will listen to a non fiction book about a cheetah called National Geographic Kids~Cheetahs by Laura Marsh. They will learn and gather information about cheetahs from the non fiction book, as well as from a discussion about cheetahs. Learners will then create a step by step cheetah together following directions. Learners will decorate their cheetah and share it with the other learners, if they feel comfortable doing so. Learners will then add non fiction labels to teach others about their cheetah. The final project will be a cheetah, complete with tear marks for all to admire.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! Welcome to my Outschool classroom. My name is Betty Nilssen. I have a BS in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish from UW-Milwaukee. I am a first grade teacher, but I have also taught second, third and fourth grade. My passion for teaching reading while incorporating phonics, phonemic awareness, rhyming, comprehension, fluency, science, social studies, math, drawing and writing helps children strengthen their academic skills while they gain academic confidence and a love of learning. Teaching reading is my super power.
However, I incorporate math, writing, social studies and science into all of my lessons, as well.
I have three adult daughters and two of them are teachers, as well.
There are so many books to read, words and sentences to write, math equations to solve and fiction and non fiction pictures to draw. Let's get started! Use code: BettyNi2020 at checkout to try your first class and get $20 off. Enroll your Early Childhood Education student and your child will further develop their academic skills and gain academic confidence. Feel free to reach out to me with any questions or if you are looking for different times or dates for classes.
I can't wait to work with you and your child! Mrs. Nilssen
