Class Experience
***This is a flexible schedule...it will fit everyone's schedule as I use an educational portal called Edmodo (free)*** Students will learn: 1. Types of Cells: Prokaryotic/Eukaryotic - Learn the difference between Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells, What are we made up of, How do Prokaryotic Cells Affect Us? 2. Levels of Organization: Cells/Tissues/Organ/Organ Systems - Learn How Cells make Tissues, Tissues create an Organ, and Organs make up Organ Systems. One can not work without the other. 3. Parts of Cells and their Jobs - Learn about the organelles of the cell. Did you know that organelle just stands for "tiny" organs? Each organelle has a specific job and how they communicate to keep the cell healthy. 4. Comparing a Cell to a City - We will compare a Cell to a City and complete a project to help understand the jobs of the cell parts and remember them relating to your own town. 5. Cell Transport in and out of a cell - We will learn how molecules enter or exit the cell, some need help (active transport), and others do not (passive transport), and then there is water that enters the cell via Osmosis. 6. Cancer Cells - Learn what happens to cells to become cancerous and why. I offer fun and exciting projects, use of apps, coloring and having cells come alive online, as well as video and question-based answers. I post on Edmodo the topic and an in-depth overview of information about the topic comparing it usually to a real-life situation, so students get a deep understanding of the subject matter prior to trying any assignments. Students can inquire, ask questions, present thoughts virtually via Edmodo...it allows for every student to be involved in the conversation in case others have the same question. Communication with the teacher will be via email or Edmodo. Edmodo is an educational portal that mimics Facebook and gives Real-Time posts and responses at any time.
