Class Experience

Students will learn to express their thoughts and opinions and a fun and constructive way. They will gain an increased appreciation for anime as a medium, learning to approach the stories they love from new perspectives and gaining exposure to new stories and information about Japanese culture. They will have the chance to make friends with like-minded students along the way!
I am a longstanding anime fan and love to talk about it! I have watched many shows from different genres over the years and am familiar with both classic and more modern series. I also minored in Japanese language and culture and therefore have the ability to provide students with more information about the cultural background of many of the stories they may love!
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Given that anime is a broad storytelling medium, there are some anime more appropriate for children and others more appropriate for adults. This is a class for teenagers, somewhere in the middle, and I am therefore aware that different students in this class will likely be at different levels of what they and their families may feel is appropriate. It is likely that some students will mention more mature anime in classroom discussion, but I will moderate discussion away from particular mature topics in general within the context of each class. If there is any topic your family or child is sensitive to, please reach out to me in advance and I will make sure to take particular care if such topics come up.
