Class Experience
"Alien Invasion: Lionfish Domination!" will immerse your students into the imperiled marine world due to the most successful invasive species on the planet. Students will "Jump Start" their discovery with a short discussion on what elements make any type of invasion a success. They will then "Back Track" by helping their peers define terms that will be foundational to the lesson. Next, they will "Step Up" their discovery. This class is taught in English.
Students will understand what characteristics a novel species must possess in order to be invasive in an ecosystem.
I'm a certified Biology teacher in the State of Florida, and I'm finishing my Masters of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences from the University of Florida. Additionally, I'm a certified SCUBA diver and have participated on teams that surveyed and removed inshore lionfish in the northern Gulf of Mexico.
A one-page handout will be provided prior to the class.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
