What's included
Class Experience
This is the flexible version of the live course, Algebra Review. We use the same material and cover the same topics, however, in this flexible course, students will not be meeting in a live class setting. Students will be reviewing important Algebra topics and skills before going into Geometry or Algebra II. Students taking this course should have already taken Algebra. -How the course works: Students will be watching videos of myself teaching asynchronously. 2 lessons will be posted per week at the beginning of the week. These videos will be posted to the classroom through Nearpod lessons. Nearpod is an interactive website where students can complete self-paced lessons and the teacher can see the students' work. Students do not need a Nearpod account or login to access or work on the lessons--they simply enter their names. Students will watch the videos and take notes (any handouts used in videos will be provided to students) and answer questions on the Nearpod. Then, students will compete in Kahoot! challenges against their peers for each lesson to practice and refine the skills that were learned. It is a great way to get students practicing their skills before Geometry/Algebra 2! Kahoot! also does not require an account or login. -Getting help/communication Students that need help can and should message the teacher. I will respond in a timely manner (within 24 hours). Often times, I will pull out my tablet and stylus and make a video, as this is an easier way to help a student with a specific problem or question. If many students seem to be having similar confusion, I will make a video and post it to the classroom as a whole. -Topics that will be covered: Expressions, Multi-Step Equations, Inequalities, Radicals, Factoring, Solving Quadratics Using Factoring (2 parts), and the Quadratic Formula Here is a link to the live version of this course: https://outschool.com/classes/algebra-review-preparing-for-geometryalgebra-ii-BIzi5JO1?usid=tyoqztDs&signup=true&utm_campaign=share_activity_link

Teacher expertise and credentials
Nevada Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
Bachelor's Degree in Education from Purdue University
Hello, there! Let me introduce myself. My name is Emily Anderson. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. I am a fully-licensed high school math teacher in Las Vegas, NV. I currently teach Algebra 2, but in the past, I have also taught Math 6, Math 7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Geometry Honors. I have been teaching math for 4 years, and I love connecting with students and getting them to love math! During my first year as a teacher, my school district awarded me "New Educator of the Year", which was a direct result of the passion I have for teaching my students.
I am a young, energetic teacher who loves her students and teaching math. I have tutored students long before I ever became a math teacher. I strive to make my classes a safe and fun place for students to learn math and make mistakes--they are encouraged! It is my philosophy that every student can and should do math, and it is my goal to help as many students as possible break the stigma that "not everyone can do math". I like to show students multiple methods of approaching problems, as well as keeping my class as student-centered as possible. I actively encourage and incorporate growth mindset into my teaching.
I offer several math courses that help students review and prepare for future courses, help retain knowledge from past courses, or to learn something new! I have tried to create courses that I think students and parents will benefit from. With the COVID-19 crisis, I understand that students missed out on so much material and that sometimes parents struggle to help their students with math. If there is a specific class you'd like to see me teach, or perhaps a current class in a different format, please let me know! Feedback is always welcomed and encouraged from both parents and students. I would love your opinion on my class and what classes you'd like to see offered at any time of the year.
If you have any questions, please reach out to me. I hope to see you in class!
