In this flex class, students who have worked through the first six sections of my "Pure Algebra" curriculum will complete the remainder of the curriculum, which is equivalent to Algebra 2. The previous section is a pre-requisite. I will post three videos on the weekend, explaining the lesson and the word problem for the week. Students will upload their work and I will correct, post video explanations and monitor teamwork during the week. First, we will be investigating algebraic relations...
Students will learn the concepts taught in Algebra Two, including: Relations of Rational Number Degree Quadratic Relations The Conic Sections Literal Degree Relations See the weekly breakdown in the above section. Students will work on each lesson at their own pace during the week and upload their homework to the classroom. They will work with their team on the weekly word problem throughout the week, answering in the comment section of the classroom.
Students will have three lessons each week, which typically consist of 10 to 20 problems (Some weeks four lessons, when there is a review). These lessons will be done individually. The will participate in team word problems each week, choosing one word problem to work round-robin style as a team of two or three at the most. Each teammate does one step of the problem, then passes it on to the other teammate, the back and forth until the problem is solved according to the steps taught in the curriculum. The homework will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours each lesson.
Notebook paper, graph paper and pencils. Rulers are helpful for graphing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Leaners will keep a record of their work, keeping a grade if wanted.
No live meetings, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
I will provide pdf versions of each lesson in the classroom. I will post videos of each lesson, recorded on my YouTube Channel.
