Class Experience
This is a tutorial to help solidify student learning from their Algebra 2 class at school. The class will be one to one and will cover any objectives the student wants from their Algebra 2 class that they might be struggling with or just need extra practice. If students want to meet more than one section a week, that can be scheduled with the tutor during the tutoring sessions. If students have mastered current content, students will have the opportunity to learn ahead of their classes at school.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, I am Stephen Hargis and I am currently a high school pre-engineering teacher and a college mathematics instructor. I have been in education for over a decade now, after serving in the military the twenty years before that. I have two masters degrees. One is in education and the other is in mathematics. My bachelors degree is in professional aeronautics with a minor in aviation safety. I will be offering one on one tutoring in all high school mathematics subjects along with tutoring in College Algebra. I hold a teaching certificate in (6-12 Mathematics, Physical Science and Engineering).
My teaching philosophy is centered around the belief that every student that comes into my
classroom can learn and should have the opportunity to learn. In my classroom, students will be
able to maximize their learning potential in a safe, fun and stimulating learning environment
created by the teacher through building appropriate educational relationships within the learning
community. I create this environment through a trio of expectations I share with my students on
the first day of class. Number one is “Show Up.” I want you to be in class everyday that you
possibly can. The next expectation is “Work Hard.” Not only am I looking forward to you being
in class daily, I want you to grow everyday and that comes by having full effort from both the
student and myself. The final expectation is “Be Nice.” Students and myself will treat each other
with respect at all times.
I firmly believe that education should be purposeful and content should contain objectives
that students will benefit from in the future. These objectives should be delivered to students in a
way that focuses on critical thinking skills and where students will develop conceptual
understanding of the objectives so they can use them in authentic real world situations. In the
classroom, I accomplish this by using differentiated instructional methods that meet the needs of
the individual students and by using cross curricular assignments to build needed 21st-century
skills. Students are assessed by how they can apply the objectives to real problems they might
face in the future. My goal is that my students will walk away at the end of my courses better
prepared for their future and having grown into better critical thinking problem solvers
