US Grade 9 - 12
This course provides weekly support for Algebra 2 students. Each week students are invited to bring difficult homework questions or challenging topics from their lessons. If the students don't provide a topic, I will select one from the Algebra 2 course. The topic will be discussed and activities or guided lessons will be presented with step by step explanations. Practice problems are solved together to illustrate how to use the concepts. Then student work individually or in a group on exercises to apply the concepts and strategies. Students are encouraged to share their solutions and math workings with the group. Topics from Algebra 2 that may be discussed are : Pre-requisites for Algebra 2 (first session) Linear and quadratic functions Polynomials Radical functions and rational exponents Exponential functions Logarithms Trigonometry, including the unit circle and trigonometric identities Complex numbers Series and sequences Probability and statistics including permutations and combinatorics This course will be learner directed. Students will bring homework and topic questions each week. When extra time allows, I will present a topic that they are working on in their Algebra 2 course. As students' curriculums will differ, the order of topics from the list above will vary. Week of Sept 5 : Pre-requisites for Algebra 2. Week of Sept 12: Functions (may vary depending on students' questions and requested topics) Week of Sept 19 : Quadratics (may vary depending on students' questions and requested topics) Week of Sept 26 : Polynomials (may vary depending on students' questions and requested topics) The lessons will include slides for visual support and discussions. This course provides support for a learner currently taking an Algebra 2 course.
Learning Goals
Learners will improve their understanding of the basic concepts in the Algebra 2 course. These include linear and quadratic functions, polynomials, radical functions and rational exponents, exponential functions, logarithms, trigonometry, complex numbers, series and sequences, and probability and statistics.

I am a passionate educator with a love for teaching and tutoring mathematics. I am a certified secondary mathematics teacher who has guided learners from 10 to adults since 2012. I specialize in helping learners overcome common stumbling blocks encountered in middle school and high school math. I provide individual support through one-to-one tutoring sessions and offer weekly small group lessons covering core math subjects.
I have a bachelor’s degree in math and computer science and master’s degrees in operations research and secondary mathematics education. This extensive background enables me to offer a comprehensive approach in my math lessons. I have a passion for international education. I have taught and tutored students from diverse cultural backgrounds in the Netherlands, England, the United States, and through online platforms worldwide. I embrace the opportunity to incorporate the experiences of my learners into my math lessons, thus creating a globally enriched learning environment.
In my classroom, I guide learners to become active participants and explore math concepts through investigations. I encourage students to share their ideas during the lessons to build their mathematics skills, confidence and communication abilities. When tackling math problems together, I encourage discussing strategies and alternative methods to develop critical analytical thinking. This approach ensures that all learnings’ styles with the class are acknowledged and addressed.
Teaching for me is similar to working on a complex puzzle. With each question posed by a learner, I search to identify their knowledge gaps and connect the missing puzzle pieces. I formulate clear explanations and guidance by asking probing questions that direct learners towards the solution. I am committed to lifelong learning and continuously review and refine my teaching strategies based on student feedback and questions.
I am excited to explore the world of mathematics with your learner.
