This class is the second of three trimesters offered to complete a full year of high school Algebra 2. The subsequent trimester will be offered as the school year progresses. Pre-requisite for this course is the successful completion of Algebra 1. In this course, students will build an understanding of the basics of quadratic, radical, inverses, exponential and logarithmic relations and functions as well as how to interpret the graphs of functions. At the end of this course, they will be ready to progress to the 3rd trimester of this 3 trimester sequence to complete a full year of high school Algebra 2. Topics covered are as follows: Chapter 4: Quadratic Functions and Relations Lesson 1 - Graphing Quadratic Functions Lesson 2 - Solving Quadratic Equations by Graphing Lesson 3 - Solving Quadratic Equations by Factoring Lesson 4 - Complex Numbers Lesson 5 - Completing the Square Lesson 6 - The Quadratic Formula and the Discriminate Lesson 7 - Transformations of Quadratic Graphs Lesson 8 - Quadratic Inequalities Chapter 5: Polynomials and Polynomial Functions Lesson 1 - Operations with Polynomials Lesson 2 - Dividing Polynomials Lesson 3 - Polynomial Functions Lesson 4 - Analyzing Graphs of Polynomial Functions Lesson 5 - Solving Polynomial Equations Lesson 6 - The Remainder and Factor Theorems Lesson 7 - Roots and Zeros Lesson 8 - Rational Zero Theorem Chapter 6: Inverses and Radical Functions and Relations Lesson 1 - Operations on Functions Lesson 2 - Inverse Functions and Relations Lesson 3 - Square Root Functions and Inequalities Lesson 4 - nth Roots Lesson 5 - Operations with Radical Expressions Lesson 6 - Rational Exponents Lesson 7 - Solving Radical Equations and Inequalities Review for Mid-Term Exam I will be teaching from the McGraw-Hill Texas TEKS Algebra 2 textbook (ISBN: 978-0-02-139256-8) if you would like to purchase one for your student to utilize. Used textbooks can be found online via websites such as www.bookfinder.com. THE TEXTBOOK IS NOT REQUIRED. I will be providing content in class in addition to homework problems, quiz and test materials. ALL MATERIALS NEED FOR THIS COURSE WILL BE PROVIDED. Students will be provided with homework problems, quizzes and tests throughout the course. I will also provide answer keys for parents to utilize for grading purposes. If you would like me to provide grades, students will need to submit all work to me for grading. We will begin each class with a brief review of the previous weeks material if there are no homework questions to go over. I will work through examples as I teach each class and students will have many opportunities to work practice problems to ensure understanding before we move on. After each class, students will be given homework problems to be completed before the next class. I will provide an answer key so that parents or students can check their work. I will have private tutoring sessions available upon request for students that need additional help.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Alabama at Birmingham
I am a middle school and high school math tutor. I help students with 6th, 7th and 8th grade math, PreAlgebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and PreCalculus. I have a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I have homeschooled my four children over the last 19 years and have three children who have graduated from college and a 10th grader. I've taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Precalculus, Math Models, Physics, 4-H and study skills at a private school and homeschool co-op. I've also coached middle school and high school FTC Robotics teams. I was a Veterinary Science project leader and club manager in 4-H for 4 years.
I have a passion for helping kids discover the love of learning. My speciality is helping kids who have traditionally struggled with math find their inner math genius. I accomplish this by introducing them to strategies that help all the puzzle pieces fit together for them. I've discovered that once a student discovers that they can understand math concepts, they end up being successful through out the rest of their school career. It makes me giddy to see the lightbulb come on for kids who have truly believed that they aren't good at math. I believe that everyone can be good at math.
I love spending time with my family. We enjoy going on adventures to the beach, the mountains or wherever life takes us. I enjoy teaching online because it allows me the flexibility to be there for my family when they need me. I hope to see you in my next class!!
